Goodwill is now Open in Waterloo!

Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes is growing, creating jobs and expanding its mission in Waterloo with the Grand Opening of a new Community Store and Donation Centre at 428 King St. North.

Across Goodwill’s network of 23 conveniently located stores and 38 donation centres, open seven days per week, donors fuel Goodwill’s mission by generously giving clothing, household, and consumer goods, diverting over 60 million pounds from landfills and helping to sustain the environment.

“Every time items are donated to Goodwill, it creates work for people, many who face barriers to employment,” says Michelle Quintyn, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries, Ontario Great Lakes. “We are thrilled to be expanding our operations in Waterloo, creating new jobs for people who need them most, supporting the community to reduce their environmental impact, and providing affordable goods to consumers.”

“When we set out to hire staff for our new Waterloo Community Store, we partnered with 12 community service agencies,” says Adam Herr, Manager of the Waterloo Community Store. “All in all, we created 60 new jobs for the community and 42% were hired through our partners. We are proud to team up with these agencies to help people find work at Goodwill.”

Goodwill is a non-profit, registered charity that operates as a social enterprise. For more than 75 years, Goodwill has served Southwestern Ontario creating work opportunities, skills development and social integration for people facing barriers to employment such as disability or poverty. The organization offers training, benefits, wellness programs and other supports with the aim of graduating employees to a better job at Goodwill or in the community. Goodwill’s mandate is also to provide families access to affordable goods and support the environment by encouraging consumer reuse and recycling, diverting waste from landfills each year.
