The Truck Driver /Donation Attendant is responsible for providing world-class customer service, both in pick-up and delivery of goods as well as donation handling duties in store, while ensuring a Healthy and Safe working environment.

What You Will Do:

    • Follow all work instructions and policies laid out by Goodwill Industries, as well as all legislative rules and regulations laid out by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, the Ontario Ministry of Labour, and other relevant laws, and acts (e.g.: The Smoke Free Ontario Act prohibits use of tobacco inside a vehicle).
    • Follows the Customer Care Cycle (I Care) consistently providing world class customer service to all customers, internal and external, of Goodwill.
    • Complete scheduled tasks, hours, and duties as assigned by the Manager, Port Elgin Communiy Store.
    • Ensure safety and good operating condition of the truck by completing pre-trip inspections, checking oil and fuel levels. Notify the Manager, Port Elgin Community Store immediately of any maintenance issues.
    • Complete Hours of Service (HOS) log sheet and Driver Daily Report and submit to Manager, Port Elgin Community Store.
    • Drive and work in a safe, professional, and courteous manner both on the road and at all Goodwill facilities.
    • Wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Load trucks and/or trailers with: required dunnage, blue boys, totes, mail, pallet boxes, danducs and any other materials that need to be delivered.
    • Complete the unloading of trucks and/or trailers at the Port Elgin Goodwill Retail Store and Kincardine Attended Donation Centre (ADC).
    • Pick up donations, blueboys, totes, mail, pallet boxes, danducs, furniture, TVs, and other goods.
    • Use tools and equipment to safely and efficiently load/unload trailers, including but not limited to wheel chocks, pallet jacks, hand carts, lift plates, tailgates, and jack stands. The Driver must never use tools or equipment that they have not been trained to use.
    • Ensure that the truck is kept clean and tidy for the next Driver to use. This includes the interior of the truck, the exterior of the truck/trailer, and inside the truck/trailer boxes.
    • Perform other related activities as necessary or as assigned.
    • Perform all duties within the framework of the Guiding Principles, River system business model and Standard Operating procedures.
    • Follows the Customer Care Cycle (I Care) consistently providing world class customer service to all customers, internal and external, of Goodwill.
    • Be actively involved in ensuring the health, well-being and safety of themselves and their team. Conduct work activities safely and in accordance with Health and Safety legislation and Goodwill, Ontario Great Lakes Health and Safety policies, procedures, and program.
    • Maintain a neat, clean, organized, and safe facility, including but not limited to the Donation Attendant workspace and surrounding area.
    • Provide exceptional customer service to donors.
    • Assist donors with their donations.
    • Accurately sort donations into categories.
    • Maintain an accurate written record of donor counts.
    • Adhere to guidelines of accepted donations to minimize organizational waste. Whenever possible educate the donor about the reasons we are unable to accept a donation and offer alternative drop off locations.
    • Transport sorted donations to the appropriate pricing or sorting workstations. Retrieve emptied equipment from the pricing and sorting workstations.
    • When necessary, transport garbage and dispose of into the appropriate bins
    • Perform other related activities as necessary or as assigned.

  • Class “G” license is a must.
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract/CVOR (as determined by Goodwill).
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Customer Service experience is an asset.
