In June 2024, Nancy joined Export Development Canada (EDC) as the Chief Internal Auditor and Senior Officer for Internal Disclosure, in Ottawa, Canada.  She provides assurance to the Board of Directors, through the Audit Committees, regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance across the enterprise.  Nancy is responsible for managing risk associated with wrongdoing under the Public Servants Disclosure Protection Act and insider threats, as well as the Independent Accountability Mechanism program for FinDev Canada.  She leads a team of 25 audit professional, including three direct reports, comprised of financial, technology, cyber, quantitative models, data analytics, and risk subject matter experts.

Nancy was the Senior Managing Director and Deputy Chief Auditor at the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America (TIAA) in Charlotte, North Carolina from 2023 to 2024.  Nancy was responsible for providing assurance to the Board of Directors, through the Audit Committees, regarding the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management, and governance for the revenue producing businesses, client services and corporate functions.  She led a global team of 60 audit professionals across the US and India, including five direct reports.

Nancy Russell was Senior Vice-President, Chief Internal Auditor, Great-West Lifeco from 2017 to 2023. As the Chief Internal Auditor, Nancy led the independent Global Internal Audit function with the primary objective of assisting the Boards of Directors, through the Audit Committees, in carrying out their corporate governance responsibilities. This was also aligned with assisting management and staff in the achievement of their goals and objectives in a way which was adequately controlled and effectively managed.

Nancy started her career with London Life as Manager of Internal Audit in 1999. Other roles she has held included Senior Vice-President/Chief Compliance Officer, Great-West Lifeco; Senior Vice-President of New Business, Individual Insurance for Canada Life; and Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer for the former Quadrus Investment Services Ltd, a mutual fund dealer firm and previous subsidiary company of London Life and Great-West Life.

From a community perspective, Nancy currently serves on:

• YMCA Southwestern Ontario – member of the Board and Audit sub-committee since 2020

• Goodwill Industries Ontario Great Lakes – member of the Board and Finance & Audit sub-committee since 2023; previously a community member of the sub-committee (2020).
  

Nancy obtained her Honours B.Comm. (1987) from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She is a Chartered Accountant (1991) and Certified Internal Auditor (2021), who also holds the Institute of Corporate Directors designation (ICD.D) (2021).
