Matt had a problem – he needed a job. Moving from a small town to London in an effort to find work, Matt was feeling anxious and uncertain about the whole process. He didn’t have any connections or networks developed to help him in his job search; he didn’t know where to start.
Fortunately, he was referred to the Goodwill Career Centre in January 2013 and participated in multiple training and development workshops, ranging from how to write a resume and cover letter to how to ace a job interview. Matt enthusiastically dedicated himself to his job search and was an active participant in the Job Search Network at the Goodwill Career Centre, attending every Thursday.
With the help of his Goodwill Employment Solutions Consultant, Matt secured an interview at John’s Valu Mart, and in June 2013, he was hired as a part-time Produce Clerk. Matt’s work ethic and his eagerness to learn, grow and develop really impressed the managers.
Because of his hard work, Matt was offered full-time hours in May 2014. One year later, he was promoted to Produce Manager with supervisory responsibilities. Proud and excited in his new role, Matt asked how he could give back and help other employment seekers. Matt was invited to speak at a Job Search Network session and share his inspirational story.
